Aundha Nagnath: a pilgrim's guide to the 8th Jyotirlinga

Aundha Nagnath: a pilgrim's guide to the 8th Jyotirlinga

Why Aundha Nagnath matters

Of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, Aundha Nagnath is the eighth. For most pilgrims it is part of a lifetime circuit — and many tell us it is the most serene stop of all, because the temple still feels like a living, daily place of worship rather than a tourist attraction.

What to see

The Hemadpanti black-stone architecture, the below-ground sanctum and the unusual rear-facing Nandi are the three things every visitor remembers. The temple is open from early morning with abhishek rituals and closes after the evening aarti.

Plan around festivals

Mahashivratri is the busiest night of the year. Shravan month brings daily Rudra Abhishek. If you want a quiet, unhurried darshan, the weeks between festivals are ideal — and that is when rooms are easiest to book.
